The last Interview of the Legend Nze Dan Orji...
The band initially was challenged by the lack of adequate musical equipment, but through the help of Mr. Martin Onyewuchi (late) a second hand amplifier was bought. Then came in Bonniface Nkwopara, Young and Anii. Thus; with Bonny on Bass, Anii on Bongo, Young on Conga, Ejike on Maracas and Dan himself on Vocals, the band was set to rock and roll.
From then on, they performed virtually in almost all the cities and villages of the then east central states and beyond. It was during one of their tours in Aba that Sani Adamu joined the band.
By 1976, the band members had issues among themselves and consequently Dan left the band and founded the “SKYLARKS Universal band of Nigeria” which was funded by Prince Lemi Akakem.
However, the band was later disbanded and Dan joined Lemi Akakem Construction Company based in Orji Owerri, where he served as Public Relations Manager and later appointed Purchasing Officer.
Consequently, because of the zeal to learn new things, Dan acquired through experience, the skill of becoming a builder and after 8 years of service in the company, he launched his own construction company.
Despite various challenges in life, Dan never abandoned his first love – music. Significantly, after the birth of 1st child in 1979, and persuasions from colleagues and friends he decided to revive the Peacock’s band in 2004. He then recalled all the available members of the band and reorganized the band to become now “Dan Orji and his Peacocks International Band”.
Indeed this “Abriwa”, “Highlife” and “Bongo” music icon of our time was a great source of inspiration to both accomplished and upcoming artistes and at every opportunity advised them to always stay focused and believe in themselves.
Before his transition, Nze Dan Orji performed at various shows and bagged several awards notably; Imo State Based Artistes Award, Arochukwu Kingdom Natural Humors award to mention a few, and was conferred with the “Nze” title of (Akunesiobi ike of Orji). He was married with many children, most of whom are also endowed with creative musicianship.
Nze Dan Orji was working on a new album which is still expected to be completed and released in the near future.
